As the debt ceiling talks escalate, my hope is that one congressman would rise up and have an honest dialogue with the American people, putting Americans on notice that we are headed for financial destruction, full speed ahead, unless we start to cut back programs that are unconstitutional.
Congressmen from both sides of the aisle need to stop blaming the other party. You don't just wake up one day to a $16.9 trillion debt unless both chambers have agreed to it. You can't. Legislation doesn't work like that.
The short-term consequence may be the congressman with the honest discussion gets un-elected. However, truth always wins out. Is there a congressman who is willing to put aside winning re-election to speak the truth? Are we ready for that honest discussion?
