Thank you to Porter County Councilman Dan Whitten for raising concerns about a county partnership with Lakeshore Paws. While Jeanne Sommer is a highly successful Realtor, her rescue group would be considered a start-up in business terms, a first-year phenomenon that hasn't yet proved its sustainability.
My second concern centers on Lakeshore Paws' definition of adoptability because it only seems to rescue the cutest, healthiest, most marketable animals. Would it consider the 7-year old surrendered cat, the dog who comes and goes three times before he finds a home, all the kittens or the hoarder dogs adoptable?
I'm also disturbed by very premature public speculation about staff at a new shelter. It seemed to be a slap in the face to the current staff who have worked so hard to turn the shelter around.
