Why aren't fundamental questions being asked?

Is education the acquisition of perceived knowledge or the pursuit of wisdom? Are our best educational sources derived from humankind’s greatest minds or politicians and corporate CEOs? Is a child a humanoid into which knowledge is thrust to prepare for the workforce, or a child to be raised to his or her highest potential as a human being?

What criteria best evaluate success -- written test scores or human values: character, integrity, love of learning, et al?

Which societal problems are most pressing, insufficient integrity, wisdom, etc., or the number of scientists?

If science and math are the most urgent requisites, how are science and math to be taught? Promoting imagination, curiosity and critical thinking, or implanting perceived understandings? Which scientific endeavors improve the human condition? Indeed, why science when politicians do not use our best scientific findings now?

These and similar fundamental questions are seldom asked now. Why?
