Regarding the story, "Trial could be set in cop attack," since when is an officer allowed to use deadly force and fire a "kill shot" over what appeared to be a shoving and punching match?
Merrillville police Officer Curtis Minchuk was a veteran officer with extensive police training in martial arts and the use of the baton to neutralize an unarmed attacker. Was pulling the trigger the result of Minchuk loosing his temper or a panic attack or both?
Since Craig Strand was unarmed, a rapid retreat by the officer and calling for emergency backup would have been the safer choice regarding public safety and avoiding the real possibility of Strand dying.
If there was a better course of action, then this incident should be incorporated in future police training.
