I find Hobart City Councilman David Vinzant's comments that "income taxes indicate who can afford to pay" offensive.
Why should anyone pay more just because they earn more? Just because I earn more than my neighbor, why should I pay more for the same services we both use? Just because my neighbor is retired, do they benefit any less from these same services?
Maybe the working guy with kids in college has more of a burden than the retired folks. Maybe the folks working two jobs to make ends meet don't need an extra income tax. Maybe all this affects his ability to pay these income taxes you so easily want to confiscate.
All this county income tax will be is a slush fund to keep the political waste and abuse abuse afloat! Not "a better future for Lake County," but a better future for Lake County politicians!
