Why subsidize train rides instead of helping now?

"Promoters: No new tax needed," the headline read. All victims of the Mike Repay/Roosevelt Allen Lake County tax should enter these words into their favorite search engine: Metra tax bailout.

Increase in county sales tax, real estate transfer tax, RTA parking tax and RTA gas tax are found in just the first two pages.

Mike Repay was quoted Jan. 19 as saying he would "like the county to use $2 million to $3 million per year to help pay for the project." It's our money, not his!

Do we have enough police and other county services? Are all our veterans taken care of? I wonder what that kind of money could do to help our at-risk kids, the homeless and the hungry.

If the benefits of this project are so numerous, why should we subsidize people's train rides to Chicago instead of putting our money to work helping our neighbors now?
