For the second straight year, the Whiting-Robertsdale Chamber of Commerce will be among the sponsors of World Civility Day.
The chamber has signed on as a sponsor of the April 13 civility-themed workshops at the Indiana Welcome Center in Hammond and an evening awards dinner at Avalon Manor in Merrillville.
Community Civility Counts, which started as a partnership of the Gary Chamber of Commerce and The Times Media Co. in 2015, is hosting the activities of the special day.
Community Civility Counts partners with the Whiting-Robertsdale chamber over the summer to recruit a volunteer army to greet attendees to the Pierogi Fest in Whiting.
Workshops offered April 13 include “Civility in the Community” by the National Civility Center; “Where do we go from here – chaos or community?” by the Urban League of Northwest Indiana; “The Business Case for Civility at Work” by Lew Bayer of Civility Experts of Canada; “Civility in the Classroom” by Summer Moore of Community Civility Counts and teachers involved in the program in two Gary charter schools; and “Cyber Bullying in Schools” by Cathie Bledsoe of the Indiana State Police.
Tickets for World Civility Day activities can be ordered through the Gary Chamber of Commerce. Call 219-885-7407. Tickets are $25 for the day sessions and lunch and $60 for the celebration and awards dinner. Tables of 10 for the dinner can be reserved for $550.
