Once you make the decision to invest your time and money into building a new home, the process involves many choices.
Whether you already have the perfect plan and a site selected or you could use some guidance in these areas to get the ball rolling, your builder will be a key player when it comes to making your dreams a reality – so choose wisely.
Local, independent builders are fully vested in your project
“As you conduct interviews and tour model homes or job sites, keep in mind that quality, service and experience can be re-defined to fit just about any situation, and builder references can be hand-selected to alleviate any fears,” Cory Kreith of CK Building and Design explained. “Beautifully decorated model homes are not always the best measure of quality either. What you need to do is establish a clear picture of the process ahead.”
A Crown Point resident with lifelong roots in the region, Kreith’s passion for homebuilding led him to Butler University. His impressive resume includes more than 20 years of hands-on experience in the building trades as well as experience working for Indianapolis-based Hunt Corporation, one of the largest general contractors in the US, and a distinguished list of professional designations.
“Homebuilding has changed tremendously in recent years,” he added. “You need to know as much as possible about who will be responsible for your largest financial investment.”
To begin, consider the many advantages of dealing with a local, independent builder who will be directly responsible for the construction of your home.
“New home buyers are the ultimate benefactors when they work with a local builder,” Kreith said. “As an owner/operator who has also been an active builder and tradesman in the local market for many years, I know my personal reputation is based on serving the needs of new home buyers in my own backyard. My clients are the very same people I see out at night at the ballpark or in a local restaurant or at the kids’ schools.”
Along with working hard to ensure a great experience for their clients, local builders support the local economy. From paying local taxes to buying locally produced goods and services, they are invested in the communities where they live and work.
According to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), home building generates substantial local economic activity, including new income and jobs for residents and additional revenue for local governments – plus the ripple effect that occurs when income earned from construction activity is spent and recycled in the local economy.
Local builders also have long-established relationships with the areas’ best tradesman, helping them deliver homes built to their exacting standards.
The fine craft of custom home building at CK
“Great design happens when you take the time and listen carefully to everything your client has to say,” Kreith explained. “Just the other day I was working with a client on their kitchen, and we spent about 5 hours going over all the details.”
“Technology is such an important facet in the custom building market,” he added. “For example, as we were talking about different things, I was able to show them how a change would affect their overall plan in 3D. The average homebuyer doesn’t always see those kinds of things with a 2D drawing so it really helps them make better decisions. They can visually see what they are getting, and once they come to a decision, I can price things out from there so we avoid any cost overruns down the road.”
From the exterior and interior design to selections, colors and landscape design, CK Building and Design utilizes the latest technology and design software so clients can see what it will be like to live in their home before it is built. Then, during construction, they have access to CK’s proprietary online scheduling system that keeps them up-to-date with everything that’s happening, including special alerts along the way.
Having built nearly 100 homes in and around Crown Point, Cory Kreith of CK Building and Design looks forward to the opportunity to meet more future neighbors.
