One of the things that make communities vital and strong is a top-notch hospital, where individuals and families can be confident of receiving the best health care.

Franciscan Physicians Hospital in Munster has undergone intensive, careful strategic planning to expand its services for area residents. Now that a review of the community’s health-care needs and the best way to meet them is completed, groundbreaking and major construction will begin at the hospital in several key areas. A new emergency room will be one of the new additions, providing peace of mind and convenient urgent care for area residents.

Franciscan Physicians Hospital administrators and staff understand that holistic healing means providing care for mind and body, so a brand-new chapel has been designed. Hospital President Barb Greene said, “The chapel, emergency room, and other additions will be beautiful architectural structures that support the health and well-being of those we’re so fortunate to serve.”

With more services provided, a multi-story building with additional patient rooms is planned. Franciscan Physicians Hospital currently houses 63 acute-care beds, eight surgical suites, two cath labs, an imaging center and more at the hospital location, 701 Superior Ave. The plans also come with the much anticipated addition of an entrance on the south side of 45th Avenue, just west of Calumet Avenue. This will provide faster access for ambulances and other transport vehicles.

Other important expansions will include the medical arts building’s oncology services, where one of the features will be the ability to provide infusion treatments for patients. Facilities for administrative services will be expanded as well.

Greene shares the excitement of an expanded, community-minded hospital. “Munster and the surrounding communities will be the ultimate benefactors of this strategic move to expand our services and boost the economy, both locally and regionally.”

Franciscan Physicians Hospital takes pride in being affiliated with Franciscan Alliance – one of 32 Pioneer Accountable Care Organizations in the nation, for its goal of improving care while efficiently managing reimbursement.
