Hammond is a happening place, all year long, thanks in part to the bounty of activities, facilities, and events organized by Hammond Parks and Recreation. The staff at Hammond Parks and Recreation offers the family fun throughout the city, at the Hammond Civic Center, the Jean Shepherd Community Center, the Environmental Education Center, through the Hammond Parks Foundation, the Hammond Sports Hall of Fame, a number of neighborhood parks, and the Hammond Boxing Club.

One of the most popular events that draws thousands to the region is the 10th Annual Festival of the Lakes which is being held at The Pavilion at Wolf Lake starting Wednesday, July 17th through Sunday, July 21st, 2013. As always, the Festival offers a wide array of activities for every one of all ages. Enjoy food vendors, beer garden, a carnival, children’s stage, five days of free concerts on the main stage, Special Persons’ Day, Senior Day, the Festival Golf Outing at Lost Marsh, car show, Polka Party held at the Hammond Marina, a 5K run and walk, fishing derby, free pontoon rides, and a fireworks display Friday and Saturday night after the concerts.

Other events planned by Hammond Parks and Recreation include the WWE Road to WrestleMania SmackDown Tour on Saturday, March 16th at 7:30 p.m. at the Hammond Civic Center. Don’t miss this special road to WrestleMania SmackDown Tour. See all of your favorite SmackDown superstars live in action from the Hammond Civic Center for the first time in two years including Big Show, Sheamus, Randy Orton, Alberto Del Rio, Kofi Kingston, Wade Barrett, The Divas, and more. On March 16th join the family fun for Easter Egg Hunts at Hammond’s parks. This annual event is free for Hammond residents and takes place at Dowling Park (behind Jean Shepherd) at 10 a.m., and Pulaski Park (137th and Sheffield) at 12 p.m. Bring your own Easter basket and you must be a Hammond resident to participate. Age groups are 2-4, 5-7,8-10, and 11-12.

On March 23rd and 24th the 11th Annual Pampered Woman Show is held at the Jean Shepherd Community Center. Girls just want to have fun, and they can as they shop over 100 vendors offering items such as jewelry, clothing, candles, florals, home accessories, and learn about healthy lifestyle options, taste decadent treats and enjoy demonstrations. Guests can also enjoy spa services, massages, manicures, and pedicures. Admission is $5, children under 12 free. Tickets go on sale February 9th.

May 3rd is the CincoDe Mayo celebration at the Hammond Civic Center. This colorful annual gala features fantastic Mexican cuisine, mariachis, dances, and live entertainment.
