Standing outside of the local grocery store, Hobart mayor Brian Snedecor is stopped by a mom with a few children in tow. “This is exactly why I moved here,” she tells Snedecor. “Hobart has this clean, small town flavor that provides for all my big town needs. I can’t imagine living anywhere else.”

Snedecor smiles.

“I love this job and I love having those moments with our residents,” he says. “But I certainly shouldn’t receive all of the accolades. It’s truly a team effort and the result of people working together. From the city departments to the volunteers that serve on our boards, we are all overseeing and playing a part in the successful path our city finds itself on.”

From the resurgence of the downtown district to the Lake George extension, Hobart is indeed on the right path. Strategically located close to downtown Chicago, the quality of life in Hobart has never been better. “The city has continued to show growth,” says Mayor Snedecor. “Growth commercially and with our infrastructure and restoration industries keeps us a vital community. Our plan is to stay strong and go with our north winds. We continue to attract good industry. When many other communities flat lined, we grew…and it’s something I am very proud of.”

New playgrounds, updated facades on the Festival Park band shell & Lou Kuchta Memorial Bridge and an expanded Summer Market to Festival Park are just some of the ways the City of Hobart continues to put the focus on family friendly events. The expansion of recycling programs also continues to create savings to the city & also the environment, deeming the city a recent “Clean City” designation.

The addition of the $70 million new high school is yet another feather in the cap for Mayor Snedecor. “People are relocating from other areas simply based on our education system and what we can offer students academically,” he says. “There is no better time in our history to witness the blend we are lucky to have within our community.”
