As he grabs his headphones and steps up to the microphone, Drew Thomas knows he is right where he was always meant to be. As co-owner of Thomas Irrigation and a business executive with over 20 years in the business industry, Thomas takes joy in sharing his expertise and knowledge with homeowners hoping to beautify their yards along with Rich Christakes, owner of Alsip Nursery.

“Every caller is an interesting one to us,” says Thomas, who hosts “Green Green Gardens” on WJOB-AM every Thursday morning at 9am alongside co-host and Alsip Nursery owner Rich Christakes. “They come up with these new ideas, or questions that we love looking into further. I especially love spreading the word on more natural, organic landscaping products.” Natural is the way to go. Drew and Rich will return the radio at their usual time slot of 9 AM every Thursday, starting February 21, 2013 on 1230 AM on your radio dial. You can also view the show on WJOB's livestream

Just a day after retiring from his 20 year position with IBM Corporation, Thomas and his son Matthew opened Thomas Irrigation to provide a long list of water based services for the Northwest Indiana community. “We started from ground zero back then,” chuckles Thomas, whose company is now celebrating their 20th anniversary. “I couldn’t help but notice how many companies out there who simply weren’t installing features such as sprinklers correctly. They weren’t servicing the customer as well as they should. As years went by, we built this company on a positive reputation and extraordinary work. Even when we are out on the road with our fleet of trucks, it’s about portraying a positive image.”

Thomas Irrigation provides services to over 6,000 clients in Northwest Indiana and the Chicagoland area, and plan to top $1 million in sales at the conclusion of 2013. We offer new installations, winterizations, spring startups and backflow certification. “We are one of the top 3 companies in Toro eyes, and we work to test new products for Toro before they are offered to the public, which is something we take great pride in,” explains Thomas, who serves as a member of the Schererville Chamber of Commerce.

And working alongside his son? Well, that might just be the very best part of his day. “Matthew got into the industry when he was just fourteen, and he excelled in it,” concludes Thomas. “It’s amazing for both of us to be able to watch our company grow.” R3member, we could not have done this without the help of our dedicated customers and our excellent staff of workers.
