Doelling Decorating Center has a long history of providing certified, experienced, and confident staff to help make every decorating decision, big or small, a memorable and lasting experience. Although a recent fire heavily damaged the original building, their temporary showroom is located one-quarter mile away at 1152 Marsh Street, Suite D. They look forward to a grand re-opening this summer. Malissa Doelling-Happer, operation manager, says that these recent events are part of a long history of endurance and dedication to Northwest Indiana and beyond.
Built on a foundation of customer service, expertise, and loyalty, Doelling Decorating Center continues the tradition today. “What sets us apart from other businesses, is our service, and our innate way of listening to exactly what the customer wants and needs to complete their decorating job right the first time”, says Doelling-Happer. Their staff members bring a multitude of talents to the business, and their expertise is used in helping their customers select paint color, window treatments, wall coverings, interior shutters, draperies, fabrics, and walks them through the process from beginning to completion. Other services they provide include in-home and in-store consultations for paint, window treatments, shutters, and customized design work for interior and exterior decorating.
Doelling Decorating Center is proud to offer quality products such as Hunter Douglas Window Fashions, Never Compromise Pratt & Lambert paints, and the award winning Old Masters Stains. Customized draperies, valances, cornices, and bedding are designed and created with the array of fabric selections. Doelling is proud to sell quality products at affordable prices to ensure total customer satisfaction.
After many decades in the region, the staff aspires to the same vision that Paul Doelling, owner of Doelling Decorating Center, shares: “We believe in partnerships and we can never stand alone, for our business is as strong as our own community.” Doelling-Happer adds, “We want to continue to strengthen our community, to keep it alive and vibrant.” They support and work with local organizations such as the Memorial Opera House and other groups dealing in the arts, local churches, schools, park districts, and other charitable groups. “To give much is to receive much, and we are able to continue this work with the help of all our patrons, whom we value and thank everyday.”
From A.G. Doelling driving his highly decorated paint truck from home to home in the 1920’s, to the original store being built with homemade concrete blocks in the 1950’s, to the upgrade of a decorating store in the 1970’s, to the present day restoration, Doelling Decorating Center has hurdled many obstacles, and they will continue to persevere with the visions, hopes and dreams of those that laid the ground work before them, to make it a reality today and in the future.
