Every single day, Deborah Parra has a hand in transforming the life of a woman dealing with the diagnosis of breast cancer. “They walk out of our doors standing straight and seemingly having a new outlook,” explains the registered nurse and CEO of ABC Medical Services in Lansing. “They often wear our products out of the store because they just feel so much better in them.”

As a certified fitter for women dealing with a recent mastectomy, Parra strives to provide her customers both expertise and attention when they need it the most. “Many women come here dealing with physical limitations and not entirely sure of the products that will work best for them,” says Parra, who opened her Women’s Boutique just three years ago. “As a nurse, I specifically know what they are going through, and what they are going to need as they continue their treatment.”

With over 230,000 women diagnosed with breast cancer each and every year, Parra says the need for such a boutique was something she saw firsthand. “When we relocated (ABC Medical Services) here in 2009, it was apparent that the area did not have anywhere for these patients to go,” recalls Parra, whose company also offers mastectomy products and all types of medical equipments and supplies, such as walkers, wheel chairs, commodes, beds, lift chairs and diabetic shoes. “We provide a full range of post-mastectomy services starting with pre-op consultation to explain the services and fit for the immediate post-operative drainage support needs.”

Indeed, The Women’s Boutique is filled to the brim with multiple lines of products for women currently enduring breast cancer treatment, which can include everything from the surgical removal of a tumor to removal of the entire breast. From scarves to wigs to sleepwear to bras, the store carries the essential items and the items that just might have them feeling brand new again. “We specifically keep up to date with the latest styles because we want women to feel as good as they possibly can,” explains Parra. “A new and beautiful piece of lingerie, for example, can make a huge difference for someone going through physical limitations.”

And while Parra’s clientele find themselves going through a challenge they never imagined having to face, they are assured to feel just a tad more beautiful after leaving The Women’s Boutique.
