It was a chilly December morning, when DownRange Dynamics owner Jon Glackin knew that his business had changed forever. “It was the day after the tragedy in Newtown, and our store was literally packed,” says Glackin, who shares ownership duties alongside business partner Mike Lanovich and his wife Cheyenne Lanovich. “We were literally selling out of many items. What happened that day at Sandy Hook Elementary School was horrible, but we also had the job of supporting our customer’s second amendment rights at the same time.”
Since opening in Portage just one year ago, DownRange Dynamics has made it their mission to serve the defense needs of Northwest Indiana area. Carrying a wide range of new and used weapons, ammunition and accessories, the DownRange Dynamics team of experienced professionals is there to insure that their customers have the information they need in order to make a decision regarding their gun needs.
“From the first time buyer to the experienced sporting huntsman, we don’t ever want anyone to leave our shop without being completely informed and instructed in what they are buying,” says Glackin, a longtime arms collector. “We too were once new gun users, so no one should be afraid to ask questions. Being a smaller shop, we have the time to spend with our customers on a one on one basis to make sure they are informed as to the proper use of the weapon.”
Glackin says he has been astounded by the welcome DownRange Dynamics has received from the Porter County and Portage community. “We have received nothing but support and have been able to make a lot of new friends here,” he concludes. “The political climate we find ourselves in right now can be both good and bad. And as a small business, we are constantly trying to make sure we have enough inventory for our customers. The bottom line is the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun, and we take pride in providing law abiding citizens the ability to defend themselves.”
