Entrepreneurs Michael and Rebecca Hogan attribute the tremendous growth of Hogan Consulting Group over the last decade to the outstanding commitment of a highly talented team. As a result, they made their employees owners last December.
With an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) put in place last December, all 22 employees have a stake in the future growth and development of Hogan Consulting Group.
Looking toward the company’s continued success, the Hogans point to the fact that their employee-owners now have a big stake in the business – far larger than if they were splitting their investment between thousands of employees – giving them an even greater incentive when it comes to working hard for their clients. A Georgetown University study confirms this, showing that during the recent recession, ESOP firm revenue grew an average of 15.1%, compared to a decline of 3.4% for all private-industry revenue.
Established in 2004 and bolstered by a $10,000 grant as part of a Purdue/Lilly business plan competition, Hogan Consulting Group provides information technology solutions to businesses of all sizes.
“I always knew that I wanted to start my own business one day,” Michael Hogan said. “While working as a Systems Engineer for another consulting firm, I saw the value desktop virtualization and cloud services could bring to clients, and no one else was focused on this technology in the region.”
“My flexible schedule allowed me to do all the ground work and get the business set up,” Rebecca Hogan, a former registered nurse, explained. “After we started Hogan Consulting Group in our basement, I only picked up one more shift as a nurse. We took off so fast.”
Over the past nine years, Hogan Consulting Group has focused on mid-sized to enterprise-sized clients that have been going through virtualization initiatives to reduce costs and improve business agility. Along with Michael’s technical expertise guiding the company’s growing group of systems engineers, Rebecca’s office management and marketing leadership contributed to the company earning a multitude of Citrix awards, including Partner of the Year, Excellence in Service and Marketing Excellence.
“We kept our eye on what needed to be done everyday, and business grew organically,” Rebecca said. “Even when the recession hit in 2009, we continued to do well. That’s when we took a leap of faith and hired some of the tremendous talent that was out there looking for work.”
Based in Chesterton, with offices in Ohio and Kentucky, the corporate headquarters of Hogan Consulting Group was established in 2005 and has been expanded twice to accommodate two distinct divisions. Hogan Cloud Services was recently introduced to help meet the needs of small and medium businesses when it comes to aligning the very latest IT solutions with their unique strategies and goals.
“Smaller businesses now have an opportunity to gain a competitive advantage by leveraging the same IT resources our Fortune 100 clients are using,” Michael explained. “Virtualization provides better and faster delivery of IT services, giving users the freedom and mobility to be continuously connected. But, quite honestly, one of the biggest advantages is scalability without the investment. By only paying for what you use, it’s now realistic for smaller businesses to compete more effectively with larger companies that have bigger IT budgets.”
With Indiana’s only Citrix Authorized Learning Center (CALC) onsite in Chesterton, Hogan Consulting Group hosts their award-winning training sessions for clients both onsite and virtually.
“We not only deliver solutions, but also provide training for companies and individuals looking to further their skills with the Citrix products we implement,” Rebecca said. “This is something our clients truly value and helps distinguish us in the marketplace. Based on the great success of our CALC, Mike recently helped rewrite one of the Citrix certification courses and was asked to teach the first class in Germany.”
A member of M7 Global Partners, a national network of the leading IT consulting firms in the country, Hogan Consulting Group is aligned with more than 200 virtualization consultants and engineers. “With our focus on virtualization, M7 is a natural fit to help us advance our own practice, and elevate the products and services that we can provide to our clients,” Michael said. “We are committed to bringing our clients the best solutions with the highest level of service, and with M7 we are part of a national team that is developing and refining the best practices around delivering these solutions to all of our clients.”
Look for The Evolution of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure by Michael Fox and Michael Hogan later this year, which will show how virtualization is transforming the way businesses work, collaborate and network in the cloud era. This book is a follow-up to Michael Fox’s original work, Demystifying the Virtual Desktop which was published in 2010 and quickly became an invaluable reference across all job functions—sales, systems engineers and software developers—demonstrating how solutions should be driven by the unique requirements of a business and not by technology.
With a new book, a new division off to fast start and their ESOP in place, Hogan Consulting Group is looking forward to welcoming new customers who can also benefit from their great expertise and exemplary customer service.
