A judge says a reputed Chicago gang member accused in the shooting death of a 6-month-old girl must remain behind bars as he awaits trial on a first-degree murder charge.

A Cook County judge denied bond for Koman Willis during a Thursday hearing, saying the 33-year-old poses a danger to the community.

Willis is accused of shooting Jonylah Watkins while targeting her father March 11. The father says he had just pulled his car over to change his daughter's diapers when the shooting started. Willis allegedly suspected the father of stealing from him.

Defense attorney Robert A. Fisher said later Thursday that prosecutors didn't offer sufficient proof of his client's involvement in the shooting. He added he's considering appealing the judge's order.

The next hearing's set for June 24.
