INDIANAPOLIS | The deadline to apply for a two-year appointment as Indiana's poet laureate is Thursday.
Applicants must be Indiana residents, should be published poets and have experience in educational program development.
Applications must include a cover letter and resume, which can be submitted online at in.gov/arts/2393.htm.
The Indiana Arts Council, in conjunction with a panel of university professors, will select the new poet laureate by the end of the year.
The winner will travel the state promoting poetry to students, arts groups and other entities.
Karen Kovacik, who was born in East Chicago and grew up in Highland, is Indiana's current poet laureate.
