INDIANAPOLIS | Gov.-elect Mike Pence is looking at public-private partnerships as one of the methods Indiana could use to finish the Interstate 69 extension.
The Evansville Courier & Press reports that Pence has identified such partnerships as one of the options he'll consider to finish I-69.
The first 67 miles of the 142-mile highway opened in November from Evansville to Crane and the Crane-to-Bloomington segment is set to open by the end of 2014.
The Indiana Department of Transportation, whose commissioner will continue in that post under Pence, recently asked contractors to propose ways they might play a greater role in completing I-69.
That request seeks proposals for the Bloomington-to-Martinsville portion, with the goal being to cut costs by awarding the project in a single contract, rather than several.
