ST. JOHN | Three children were injured in a two-vehicle crash Sunday on Wicker Avenue in St. John, officials said.
One child was airlifted to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, said Patti Van Til, spokeswoman for the Lake County Sheriff's Department.
Two other children involved in the crash were taken to The Community Hospital in Munster and Franciscan St. Margaret Health in Dyer, she said.
The crash happened at 12:41 p.m. as a 2011 Honda Accord driven by Walter Gabel, 47, was traveling south in the the 8200 block of Wicker Avenue and crossed the center lane for unknown reasons, Van Til said.
The Accord collided with a 2012 GMC Terrain driven by Lisa Weinmann, 42, who was traveling in the left northbound lane, she said.
Gabel was injured and taken to a local hospital. His passenger was airlifted to the Oak Lawn hospital, Van Til said.
Weinmann and her two juvenile passengers were taken to local hospitals.
Van Til did not have information about the severity of the injuries. The identities of the children involved in the crash were not released Sunday.
