Thick fog slowed drive times and delayed some area schools this morning.

By noon, the National Weather Service had lifted a dense fog advisory for Cook, Will, Jasper, Lake, Newton, Porter and LaPorte counties.

The conditions made for hazardous driving conditions. The National Weather Service urged motorists to use their low-beam headlights and allow plenty of space between vehicles.

Indiana State Police said a 6 a.m. single-vehicle, fog-related crash on the Interstate 80/94 bridge over Ripley Street in Lake Station sent five people to local hospitals. None of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening, police said.

Local police departments reported just a handful of fog-related traffic problems, most of which involved single vehicles driving off the roadway. No major injuries were reported.

Close to 150 flights were delayed or canceled at O'Hare International and Midway airports. Flight information is available on the Chicago Department of Aviation's Web site at www.flychicago.com/.
