A wind advisory is in effect with wind gusts of 50 mph whipping through the region.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for Cook, Will, Benton, Jasper, Lake, Newton and Porter counties until 4 p.m. and LaPorte County until 8 p.m.

Sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph are forecast with gusts of 45 to 50 mph likely.

The forecast prompted the Indiana Toll Road to issue a wind ban prohibiting triple, long-double and high profile oversize permit loads.

The National Weather Service is warning of the potential for property damage and difficult driving conditions.
