PINE TOWNSHIP | A woman was killed and six others were injured — including four children — Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 20 near County Line Road, authorities said.
A gold 1999 Ford Taurus was traveling east at 4:29 p.m. on U.S. 20 when it lost control and crossed the center line, according to Porter County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Larry LaFlower. A green 2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer carrying three children hit the passenger's side of the Taurus.
A passenger in the Taurus, a 24-year-old woman, died at the scene, LaFlower said. Officials had not identified the woman or other people involved in the crash Tuesday evening.
The driver of the Taurus, a 24-year-old man, was in critical condition at Memorial Hospital of South Bend, LaFlower said. A child who was a rear passenger in the car was in stable condition at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.
The driver of the TrailBlazer and her three passengers were taken to Franciscan St. Anthony Health in Michigan City with non-life threatening injuries, LaFlower said. The passengers included an 8-year-old child, 3-year-old child and an infant.
LaFlower said ice and slush on the road contributed to the crash.
