What is pink grapefruit?

This member of the grapefruit family shows off a pink-hued flesh that contains one of the densest nutrient packages among fruit juices.

Grapefruits gained popularity during the Depression era because consumers were able to trade their "orange stamps" for this novel, unfamiliar citrus fruit.

This led to an increase in the sales of a specialized eating utensil for spooning out the grapefruit's wedges.

What does it do?

No fruit juice yields as much health-giving vitamin C as does the pink grapefruit. An 8-ounce glass provides a full day's requirement of this essential nutrient. Aromatherapists use the essential oil of the grapefruit -- which is cold-pressed from the rind -- to relieve stress and nervous exhaustion. Rubbed on the skin, grapefruit can treat acne and reduce oiliness.

The lycopene content is a proven anti-aging nutrient.

About the herb

The pink grapefruit graces 20-foot tall sub-tropical citrus trees.

Recommended dosage

To assist in your weight-reduction regime, rub 1 to 3 drops of essential oil of pink grapefruit on your palms and inhale for five minutes before eating to reduce cravings for sweets and to diminish the appetite naturally.

Caution: Grapefruit juice can enhance the potency of certain pharmaceutical drugs. Check with your wellness professional.
