Hospital medical staff awards scholarships to pair of recipients
CROWN POINT | Incoming college students Caitlyn Lowry of Crown Point and Kelly Retzlaff of DeMotte were chosen recipients of a $1,000 Health Care Provider Scholarship, which is funded by the medical staff at Franciscan St. Anthony Health-Crown Point.
Dr. John Mirro, medical staff president, presented scholarship checks to Lowry and Retzlaff at a staff meeting July 7.
Lowry will be attending Purdue University-Lafayette in the fall; Retzlaff will attend Valparaiso University. Both students are enrolled in the nursing programs at their respective universities.
Scholarship candidates must be applying for post-high school education in a health care-related field and must have a mailing address within the Franciscan St. Anthony Health primary service area.
Applicants provide background about their grade point averages, work activities, extracurricular activities and community service programs they have completed. They also write an essay explaining why they are entering a health care-related field and why they believe they deserve the scholarship.
The scholarship has been offered for five years.
