DEC 31 New Year’s Eve Celebration, 7pm, White Hawk Country Club, 1001 White Hawk Dr, Crown Point. 219.661.2322. The evening begins with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres followed by a gourmet dinner. A champagne toasts rings in the New Year and a breakfast buffet follows. Entertainment and dancing available all night.

DEC 31 New Year’s Eve Celebration, 7pm-1am, Halls of St. George, 905 E Joliet St, Schererville. 219.865.9411. The Halls of St. George ring in the New Year with music by the band TOGETHER, a gourmet dinner, dancing, complimentary party favors and a champagne toast at midnight.

DEC 31 New Year’s Eve Party, 7:30pm, St. Mary Hildebrant Hall, 525 N Lafayette St, Griffith. 219.712.6419. This “Cheeseburger in Paradise”-themed party features the band Mr. Funnyman and all-you-can-eat cheeseburgers. A champagne toast and a huge balloon top ring in the New Year. Dress code is casual tropical attire.

The first Thursday of every month, restaurants—Bistro 157, Bon Femme Café, Don Quijote, Margarita’s, Tommy B’s, Pikk’s Tavern, The Silver Spoon and Valley—offer five of their most popular drinks and/or dishes for $5 apiece.

JAN 3-5, 10-12 Perspectives from Extraordinary Students, 5-8pm, Southern Shore Art Gallery, 724 Franklin St, Michigan City. 219.879.4980. This exceptional exhibit showcases the unique talents of extraordinary young adult art students with special needs. An eight-week art program, made possible by a generous grant from Horizon Bank and contributions from local groups and individuals, allowed these budding artists to create landscapes, drawing, abstract art, papermaking, clay modeling, collage and more under the instruction of artist members of the SSAA.

JAN 7-APR 6 Trucks—Recent Works by John Himmelfarb, Brauer Museum of Art, Valparaiso University Center for the Arts, 1709 Chapel Dr, Valparaiso. 219.464.5365. Chicago-based artist John Himmelfarb showcase his whimsical representations of trucks at this exhibit. His works are executed in a wide variety of media—including sculpture, painting and printmaking—and an outdoor sculpture made out of an actual truck accompanies the exhibit.
