OCT 5 Whiting Oktoberfest, 11am-11pm, 119th St, Whiting. 219.659.0292. whitingindiana.com. For the fourth year in a row, Whiting will play host to this all-day festival with activities for all ages—hayrides and games for kids, craft and vendor shows, food, a chili cook-off and German bands.

OCT 6 Romp & Roll, noon registration; 1pm performance and walk, Munster High School Football Area, 8808 Columbia Ave, Munster. 219.836.3349. rompandroll.org. For the 10th year in a row, this annual walk and fun run benefits the Cancer Resource Centre. Participants can choose between a one- or 2.5-mile family-style walk through the park or a 5K fun run along the streets of Munster. A performance by Jessie White Tumblers begins the event and a picnic follows. Entertainment includes music, clowns, face painting and more.

OCT 7 Touchdown Chili Challenge, 6-9pm, Center for Visual and Performing Arts, 1040 Ridge Rd, Munster. 219.836.5549. Contestants can compete for the title of best chili in the region at this first ever chili cook-off sponsored by the Muster Chamber of Commerce.
