Kaite Lyn Christoffersen, known as KL, spent years writing random words and names in a notebook dreaming of the day when she could name and open her own salon. Her years of dreaming became a reality when Cheeky Strut Salon opened its doors in March 2009.

Its name alone exudes a saucy, posh attitude, but as their site says, while it may feel high end, at the end of the day they never want their clients to feel intimidated. Christoffersen strives to compliment her clients, not overpower them. As general manager Scott Sanders explains, “every client of the salon should walk out feeling like they have a cheeky strut” because they look glamorous.

And they set out to accomplish that and more with their brides and bridal parties. “Our bridal hair portfolio sells itself,” Sanders says.

A couple of weeks before the wedding, brides are invited to visit the salon for a trial run. The bride is asked to bring in photos of her dress and ideas for her wedding hairstyle. “It gives us the opportunity to determine the overall look and feel they desire on their big day,” Sanders says.

On the wedding day, the salon shuts down for the bridal party, where the bride, bridesmaids and other special guests are given one-on-one attention. “We give them an intimate experience,” Sanders says.

Along with privacy, the group is treated to brunch and mimosas. Cheeky Strut also contracts makeup artists upon request. Christoffersen typically acts as lead stylist on wedding days. “Weddings are KL’s passion and what she loves doing the most,” Sanders says.

Sanders says Cheeky Strut stands out for numerous reasons but, most importantly, “they [the salon staff] do not see themselves as stylists. They know they’re artists making your hair into their own work of art. It shows in their work.”
