Indiana Wedding Ministries
"It's your day; it's your way". That is the motto of Indiana Wedding Ministries.
The Valparaiso based officiant group provides local couples with the ability to make their wedding ceremony as unique as they are.
It all began when John Fliris, an active member in his church, was approached by his stepdaughter. She wanted Fliris to perform her wedding ceremony.
He received his officiant license and in July 1996 performed his very first wedding giving his stepdaughter one of the best wedding gifts he felt he could give. As time went on word got out that now Reverend John Fliris (or R.J. as he prefers to be called) was offering his services to others.
Fifteen years later, Fliris' group has grown to include four other ministers who have performed a combined 360 ceremonies, many of which are outdoors.
Indiana Wedding Ministries' fee is $250 and $50 additional if a rehearsal is required. They offer military discounts as well.
"We're not always set on our cost either," Fliris says. "We understand special circumstances. We do this more out of a love than a need."
Fliris says his ministers are able to meet whatever religious requirements a couple desires.
"A wedding is not the place for me to preach, unless a couple wants that in their wedding ceremony," Fliris says. "It's not the time or place to give a Sunday sermon."
Fliris says his goal is for the ceremony to reflect the character of the couple going through every detail from readings to vows to special ceremony additions such as rose or sand ceremonies.
"We script it like a play," Fliris says. "Everything must be approved by the couple before going forward."
If a couple does not have a wedding coordinator, Fliris and his group will step in to make sure every detail goes according to plan.
"I want the couple to feel comfortable, to feel relaxed," Fliris says. "Don't be so focused on the pomp and circumstance, but focus on each other."
