Back in 1920, when the corner of Route 30 and 41 in Schererville, Ind., was nothing more than fields, two brothers, Martin and Stephen, decided to open a restaurant with their namesake-Teibel.

Teibel's Restaurant has been a region landmark ever since.

In the past six years, Teibel's has remodeled its entire building, going from classic 1970s to a modern, contemporary feel. "Now customers are always saying, ‘Wow, I feel like I'm downtown,'" says Jen Staggs, Teibel's manager.

Staggs finds many of the brides and grooms hosting their ceremony and/or reception at the restaurant are often third-generation weddings. "People have fond memories of growing up at the restaurant," Staggs says. "[Having their reception at Teibel's] offers sentimental value as well as continuing their family traditions." But Staggs says they want to share the Teibel's tradition with new customers too.

She says their banquet facility has a lot to offer, including competitive pricing, discounts for hosting both the wedding shower and reception at the venue, seating for up to 400, an array of menu options, complimentary centerpieces and more.

Teibel's has incorporated what they call a 10 percent leniency on head count. For instance, if a couple reserves a reception for 100 people and only 80 show, Teibel's will charge for 90. They also do not require the reception to be paid in full until the day of the wedding. Prices start at $20 per person. Teibel's can accommodate ceremonies at no additional charge.

Staggs says one of the most important things to note is that Teibel's consistently serves top-quality food. One menu item offered is their well-renowned lake perch.

According to Staggs, another component to a successfully coordinated reception is experienced staff. Several staff members have more than 20 years of service at Teibel's alone; one employee is going on 41 years. Staggs assures that "Teibel's staff will be of assistance in planning your special event from start to finish."
