Philip Potempa is a Shore writer who is also a daily food and entertainment newspaper columnist for The Times Media Company.
Most recently, he just published his third book in a series chronicling stories, recipes and memories from his personal and professional experiences.
Released in May 2010, his third book, "Further From the Farm: Family Recipes and Memories of a Lifetime" (2010 Pediment Press $29.95) features a selection of heirloom recipes and folksy stories from famous names included in the book; Mary Tyler Moore, Lily Tomlin, Julia Child, Martha Stewart, Oprah Winfrey, Dolly Parton, Betty White, Karl Malden, Phil Donahue and Bea Arthur. It is the page-by-page follow-up to "More From the Farm" in 2007 and the original "From the Farm" in 2004, both also published by Pediment Press.
In March 2008, Potempa was in the cast of director Michael Mann's film for Universal Pictures "Public Enemies," starring Johnny Depp as Dillinger, filmed on location in Wisconsin and Crown Point. Potempa, who wore a fedora hat once owned by legendary Hearst Newspapers syndicated gossip columnist Walter Winchell, played a newspaper reporter grilling Depp, aka Dillinger, with questions following his arrest and booking at the Crown Point Jail. The film was released in July 2009.
He is also an adjunct instructor in communication at both Valparaiso University and Purdue University North Central.
When not at his desk in the newsroom or lecturing in a classroom, Philip divides his time between his family's farm in Northwest Indiana and his home in Chicago.
