A couple of weeks ago, some friends and I decided to meet up for lunch at Kuma’s Corner, a burger place on Belmont in the city that has, according to them, the best burgers known to mankind.

I don’t know about that distinction, but the place was certainly popular. WE waited about an hour for a table, even at 2 in the afternoon. And even after we were seated, the entire restaurant was jam-packed the whole time we were there.

I had a burger with avocado, chipotle mayo and cherry peppers – three of my favorite additions to anything, let alone on a burger. And it had the crowning achievement of any burger in my opinion – a pretzel roll for a bun.

Kuma’s corner also had some fantastic macaroni and cheese, which diners can customize with all manner of toppings, from chicken and bacon to broccoli and sundried tomatoes.

Luckily this was a Saturday, because we decided after eating our burgers to walk to Revolution Brewing in Logan Square. This was quite a hike from Belmont, despite the somewhat warm weather that day.

The beers were inventive, but I have to say I was disappointed. Again, though we were there during a non-rush time, we were condoned off to a tiny corner and not allowed to sit at any tables in case someone wanted to dine. It was out thought that a place that should be focused on brewing should be focused on the experience of their patrons who come in for a brew, but it’s not my business, so maybe they’re doing just fine.

I do recommend their anniversary beer – it’s very syrupy and strong, but unlike any beer I’ve ever had.

As for what we did that night, I will have to save that for another time – a speakeasy featuring jazz and burlesque near the Merchandise Mart is far too interesting to be spliced onto the end of this blog post.

Until next time!
