Earlier this week, our Associate Content Producer Tara McElmurry got to go to what turned out to be the hottest party in town, Hendrick's Gin's Voyage into the Unusual.
I can only imagine what this must have been like. From what I can tell, it was some kind of a steampunk speakeasy mixed with a dash of Baz Luhrmann.
From Tara's description, the party was completely packed with lines of people waiting for their turn at the themed bars. Even outside the party, prospective attendees were lined up around the block for a chance to get in. Luckily, she was given the VIP tour of the venue, and was able to get in early!
Although not everyone could get in to the party, Tara did bring back a couple of interesting drink recipes, including these, courtesy of Hendrick's Gin.
Cucumber Blood Cocktail
.75 oz Lemon verbena infused-Hendrick's
1.25 oz cucumber juice
.25 oz lemon juice
.25 oz simple syrup
1 green chartreuse
Shake, strain, and serve in vessel. garnish with cucumber "eggs", (cuc-flavored spherified caviar) or infused cucumber balls depending on serving vial.
Night of the Iguana
1.5 oz Hendrick's Gin
1 oz Celery juice
.5 oz cucumber juice
.5 oz fresh lemon
.5 oz simple syrup
1 cucumber wheel
ground sea salt
ground cubeb berry
Combine ingredients, add ice, and shake well. Strain into martini glass. Garnish with cucumber dusted ground cubeb and sea salt.
My other favorite Chicago speakeasy, Untitled, has announced a new supper club event—Casino Night.
Untitled will offer high-class gaming including blackjack, craps, poker and roulette tables, 1950’s-inspired cocktails, complimentary hors d'oeuvres, and live entertainment featuring jazz vocalist Paul Marinaro.
For every drink purchased, gamblers will be awarded $250 in casino chips to test their luck at the tables.
The event takes place next Tuesday, Sept. 24. More information can be found here.
I don't know why these fun events are taking place on Tuesday nights - my Tuesdays usually consist of going home, making pasta, reading or watching a movie and going to bed around nine. Clearly I'm not the targeted demographic for these parties.
