A bite-and-sip warm-up party in the gallery at South Shore Arts on Tuesday, white sale extraordinaire at Tabor Hill and 18th Street successfully roasts a pig in spite of lake effect snow.

South Shore Arts Winter Warm-Up Party: Just in time to wipe-lout cabin fever a tasting party in the gallery at SSA in Munster on Tuesday. Craft beer, wine, appetizers and live music to spark the end of a snow-covered and frozen January. Festivities begin at 6 and tickets are $35. You can also taste special reserve wine with a $50 ticket. Reservations at

219.836.1839 ext. 100.

Winter White Wine Sale at Tabor Hill: If you keep thinking about Tabor Hill all the time like I do, the winery is thinking about us. For the month of January, Tabor is offering a 40 percent discount off white wines and sparkling wines by the case (12 bottles) only during the month of January. Just a reminder there are limited numbers of cases produced on the gold medal winners. Don’t say you haven’t been warned. Also, Tabor is hosting a Valentine’s Day dinner weekend for three nights (genius idea) beginning Thursday, February 13 and continuing through Friday and Saturday. Fixed price menu ($55) is a bargain and you get the view.

Special Award for Resilience to 18th Street Brewery in Miller: These brewmasters pulled off a very successful pig roast through sheer grit and determination and heavy snowfall. Congratulations to all participants as well as cooks.
