One Good Batch Deserves Another: My grandson Teddy, his mother Annalise and I spent several hours rolling out gingerbread dough, baking the cookies in the oven for 8 minutes, icing with a vanilla almond and sugar blend, decorating with M&Ms, Craisins and raisins. Teddy made hearts, trees, gingerbread men and stars. By sunset the cookies were gone.

This weekend we have a more specific goal in mind. We are going to try for two batches minimum and then we will wrap up and divide the gingerbread cookies into tins for presents for his Teddy’s great grandmothers --- he has three --- and other special relatives and friends. Teddy’s grandfather has also come up with edible mustaches and eyeballs for this weekend’s batch of cookies. A cookie walk bargain for charity in LaPorte on Saturday

From Tiffany Bley at Downtown LaPorte: “Visitors can fill their very own La Porte cookie tins this Saturday, December 14th as part of the First Annual Downtown Cookie Walk. Taking place during the Downtown Holiday Open House from 10am to 5pm, custom La Porte tins will be available for purchase at the Greater La Porte Chamber of Commerce, 803 Washington Street.

The tins come with a list of participating businesses with cookies to help fill the tins to complete the Cookie Walk. Each tin is $5 and only limited to the first 100 Cookie Walk participants so people are encouraged to arrive early. Over 15 businesses are participating, offering a free cookie per customer with a tin.

Also happening that day are free train rides and visits with Santa in the Chamber of Commerce train depot area from 11am to 2pm. The Downtown Holiday Storefront Competition is also continuing through December 22nd which showcases several businesses competing for the top prize.

Pictures of the participating windows are posted to the Downtown La Porte Facebook page. The picture with the most Likes and Shares will be awarded the People’s Choice Award.”
