The culinary forecast is hot and chili: Maybe it’s me, but I tend to think about chili with hotdogs, Cincinnati-style, warming up towards spring. But I have been so inundated with chili today---an in-house office contest is looming, foodie media is overflowing with the stuff---that I cannot do anything but cave. What I do recommend is getting in on a tasting event whether professional or potluck.

In the quest for the ultimate chili experience St. Joe, Michigan has set January 31 from 5-8pm for a second annual chili tour. The Chili Pepper Award title currently held by Third Coast Surf Shop is up for grabs again. But participants have an incentive to compete too. St. Joseph Today Executive Director Jill Stone says there will be an award of a Downtown St. Joseph Prize Pack. Visitors who have rated each location's chili and returned the completed map to the St. Joseph Today office will be entered into a drawing at 8:15 p.m.

Also, new this year, chili tasters will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite recipe. For a list of chili locations, special sales and entertainment during this "It's Finally Friday" event, visit, or call 269-985-1111.
