Captain Phillips is a multi-layered examination of the 2009 hijacking of the U.S. container ship Maersk Alabama by a crew of Somali pirates. Miles Montego (Jeff "Ja Rule" Atkins)seems to be the man who has everything. Even though he was a kingpin drug dealer he has now moved on, the DEA is not totally convinced. Then he falls in love with Vanessa (Adrienne Bailon) who is beautiful and also faithful to her church. Both Miles and Vanessa become conflicted as they try to sort through their emotions as well as day-to-day realities.
