Welcome to our Times Party pages, where we cover the social scene in our area. If you have an upcoming social event or fundraiser you would like featured in our Shore or Times Weekend pages, just contact with an invitation. 

We will try to cover as many events as possible, so please give us advance notice. We prefer black tie optional, but make exceptions for special occasions. See you at the next party!

Apr 12 UNICEF's Message of Hope Gala, 6:30-11:30pm, Four Seasons Hotel Chicago’s Grand Ballroom, 120 E Delaware Pl, Chicago. 312.222.9121. Hosted by the Midwest Regional Office of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF this annual gala features entertainment, exciting live and silent auctions, a raffle and the Message of Hope After Party.

Apr 13 'The Queens' Elizabethan Dinner, 6pm VIP reception, followed by dinner and play, Barker Hall, Franklin and Sixth St., Michigan City. 219.874.4355. This dinner fit for royalty presented by Great Lakes Catering includes a menu from history, including roast boar's head with spiced apples and a fresh herb "Wortes" salad, along with other delicacies, followed by the play "The Queens" written by Ken Brelsford, detailing the feuding crowned cousins Elizabeth I of England and Queen Mary of of Scots. Guest are encouraged to dress in royal attire, hats and other finery, if desired. The event benefits Community Arts Society of Trinity.

Apr 15-20 28th Annual VU Jazz Fest, call for times, Valparaiso University Harre Union Ballroom, 1509 Chapel Dr, Valparaiso. 219.464.5415. The Midwest's largest non-competitive jazz event spans six days and features a variety of jazz performers, including David Sanborn and Joey DeFrancesco, who will perform on Saturday evening.

Apr 25 Voice and Difference Brunch, 7:30 a.m. Strongbow Inn, 2405 U.S. 30, Valparaiso 219.464.0840 Ex. 102. Prevent Child Abuse Porter County and The Caring Place host a themed presentation "Be a Voice and Make a Difference" featuring nationally known author and FOX news reporter Britten Follett, a media specialist about social issues and prevention strategies for child abuse. This Giving Focus event benefits The Caring Place and Prevent Child Abuse Porter County.

May 9 Seeds of Hope Dinner, 6 p.m. Avalon Manor, 3550 E. US 30, Merrillville. 219.922.2732. The Friends of Hospice hosts this annual dinner, with a luau-theme for 2013, featuring a brief program honoring Cal and Cathy Bellamy for decades of support for Hospice of the Calumet Area and also highlighting a live auction, all to benefit the organization.
