Apr 22 Stars and Strikes Bowling Tourney, Olympia Lanes, Hammond. 219.989.3250. clcnwi.com. Organizations can participate in this bowling tournament that raises money for the Challenger Learning Center of Northwest Indiana. Teams of four will compete for the Challenger Cup and enjoy prizes, food and beverages. The event will help fund missions available to school systems throughout Northwest Indiana.

Apr 27 Taste of April in Paris, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Old World Market, 76 Washington St., Valparaiso. 219.476.0700. oldworldmarketonline.com. A free wine tasting and more than 200 cheeses in stock will help participants learn how to pair different wines and cheeses. Guests can also enjoy live music, pastries and chocolates.

May 9 Seeds of Hope Dinner, 6 p.m. Avalon Manor, 3550 E. US 30, Merrillville. 219.922.2732. hospicecalumet.org. The Friends of Hospice hosts this annual dinner, with a luau-theme for 2013, featuring a brief program honoring Cal and Cathy Bellamy for decades of support for Hospice of the Calumet Area and also highlighting a live auction, all to benefit the organization.

May 16 Lakeshore Public Television 25th Anniversary Celebration, 6:30-9 p.m., Radisson Hotel at Star Plaza, 800 E 81st St, Merrillville. 219.756.5656 ext.317. lakeshorepublicmedia.org. Lakeshore Public Television celebrates 25 years of providing quality PBS and local programming to Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland with an evening featuring music, food and fun. Highlights include a performance and meet-and-greet by Under the Streetlamp, hors d’oeuvres and more. Apr 19: RSVP deadline.

May 18 Crown Beer Fest, 2-6pm, Lake County Fairgrounds, 889 S Court St, Crown Point. crownbeerfest.com. One general admission tickets earns attendees the chance to sample beers from more than 30 Indiana craft brewers during this annual event. VIP ticket holders can enter at 1 p.m. Attendees must be 21 years or older and present a valid I.D.
