The 8th Annual Gobbler Classic Builds Upon New Tradition of Running On Thanksgiving for a Great Cause: Feeding NWI Neighbors In Need.

This Thanksgiving, November 24th at 7am, Faith Church of Dyer, Indiana expects a record turnout of runners for the 8th Annual Gobbler Classic 5k Run and Walk. The Gobbler Classic brings families together for a good cause: raising funds to re-stock the local NWI food depositories. Many participants refer to it as "Faithsgiving."

The Gobbler Classic has become the feel-good Thanksgiving tradition for Lake County and has now stretched into the south Chicago suburbs. Participants come from all walks of life. Pun intended.

This year's theme is: "We run so others may eat."

"I'm thankful for what I have, so I run as a way to give back-and feel better about eating such a large meal later!" to quote one registrant.

Registration is only $15 if received by November 17th, after which, walk-up registration is available for $25. The Gobbler Classic registration form can be found at

Many Gobblers have chosen to run in eye-catching fun costumes. "It has become a tradition within a tradition," says event coordinator Bethany Schutt. "The goal is to help others with this event, and that makes all participants superheroes-no matter what the costume."

Participants who register early receive a Gobbler Classic Event shirt, and reflective armband to ensure running safety. After completing the course, participants, or "Gobblers," will enjoy complimentary refreshments and an award ceremony.
