Three Oaks gets set for a thrill-packed weekend with Singer Bunny Fisher and Rope Warrior David Fisher (no relation); a quadruple line-up of super movies at Vickers and a fabulous cocktail menu at Journeyman.

Coming to Three Oaks Near You: I found myself making some detailed recommendations on what is happening in Three Oaks --- and Harbor Country --- this weekend and there is plenty of stuff to choose from as we move towards the final, final weekend. Well, you know what's coming. On Saturday night, Bunny Fisher, will be performing her latest set of jazz, show tunes and even some heartfelt blues on Saturday night with her accompanists David Lahm on piano and Larry Gray on bass. Bunny shows are always small masterpieces of craftsmanship, staging and harmony. Bunny doesn't perform as much as she would like to because she puts so much effort into her shows that it takes some time. Most folks like her slow-cooked product very much, I know I do. Also on Saturday Bob Swan performs and produces La Boheme with the LaPorte Symphony Orchestra at the Harbor Country Opera being held at the New Buffalo Performing Arts Center at NB High on Clay St. Tickets for each musical event are $30, an amazing bargain in either case.

On Sunday at the Acorn, something completely different, David Fisher “The Rope Warrior,” who performs rope jumping feats and stunts. Fisher is the current Guiness World Record holder for the most “Rump Jump.” Sounds painful. Tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for children 12 and under.

The Vickers Has Four Hits: The most famous movie theater in Michigan has four critically-acclaimed movies you won't get a chance to see anywhere except Chicago. Starting with 20 Feet From Stardom, then the comedy Frances Ha and two documentaries, Regret to Inform and Maya Lin: A Strong Clear Vision, shown to commemorate the Vietnam Veterans Moving Wall Memorial.

No Discussion of Three Oaks is Complete Without Mentioning Journeyman Distillery: I won't get into the details at this time but Journeyman has some enticing spirits for late summer including a gin cocktail with lavender and another batch of Featherbone Bourbon.
