Silver Beach in St. Joe for wine, dancing and ice-carving this weekend; pre-Valentine's Day couples painting in St. John and legendary John Records Landecker at Bartlett's in April...and BB King too.

The Coolest Place for Ice-Carving is St. Joe: As an expert and veteran of many Ice-Carving Festivals in St. Joe, Michigan, I am morally obligated to say that I have never had a bad time at this, though I've gotten cold. But, as any Polar Bear Club member --- a group that takes a dip in Lake Michigan at North Avenue Beach every New Year's Day morning wearing bathing suits --- freezing can be fun for brief outings followed by a peaceful, cozy couch lounge accompanied by a glass of Cab Franc in front of a roaring fireplace or disco dancing to the Beach Boys at the Silver Beach Carousel. Jill Stone and the St. Joe Today folks have kept the the warmth and the Waikiki Beach fun going on Friday but they have added a Saturday lineup packed with even more cool stuff. The carvers are extremely competitive and in addition to the traditional street carving there will be 15-minute “Ice Wars” with the pros dueling it out 4-6 pm on Saturday; hula dancing lessons at the ballroom and carousel and the Silver Beach Hotel event with art, entertainment and wine-tasting with samples from 10 wineries.

A Romantic Evening of Painting and Drinking: And now for something totally different. Blue 82 in St. John is hosting a couples' painting project--- two paintings that match in the middle --- accompanied by food and drink. The Wine and Canvas event at Blue 82 starts at 6:30 on Monday, February 11th at 8209 Wicker Ave., in St. John. Wine and Canvas will donate $5 for every participating painter to the Flamini Foundation, a charity for families with sick children. Register at www.wineandcanvas.com or call 312-505-3065.

First Weekend in April Sneak Preview: Four Winds, the premier gaming destinations in the Midwest, is pleased to announce that it will host a concert by blues legend B.B. King on Saturday, April 6 at 9 p.m. Eastern at Four Winds New Buffalo’s Silver Creek Event Center.  Tickets can be purchased beginning on Friday, February 8 at 10 a.m. Eastern, exclusively through the Ticketmaster Web site, www.ticketmaster.com, or by calling Ticketmaster at (800)745-3000.  Ticket prices start at $40.

The long-anticipating tell-almost-all John Records Landecker biography debuts in March so of course Chef Gary Sanders is throwing an April 7th Sunday afternoon autographing party beginning at 12 noon until 3 p.m. at Bartlett's in Beverly Shores, just down the road from the legendary DJ's Michigan City homestead.
