Producer/Director John Hancock creates his own Harbor Country Oscar buzz this weekend; @properties opens on Whittaker and I'm keeping faith in Stray Dog's resurrection.

A Very Competitive NBBA Auction:Likely it's fortunate that I was not able to make my usual haul at Bev's Second Season Ball's Silent Auction for NBBA this year at Four Winds Casino in New Buffalo—what a spacious and beautiful venue! Walking through the acres of tempting slot machines was hazardous. The first succumbing worked out well. On the second pull I was up $65, but then, figuring it was my lucky night, I kept going to a not-horribly disastrous, but nevertheless a small loss before I gave up. However, the second-best gift certificate I walked away with is for the rebuilt Stray Dog, scheduled to re-open in May. I have faith! The first-best gift certificate must remain a secret for now.

Pre-Oscar Weekend Party with Producer/Director John Hancock at Red Arrow Gallery: As you have no doubt heard, or read in the magazine or on the Shore web site, John Hancock is shooting a new movie in Northwest Indiana and southwestern Michigan. (I know a very talented person who was asked to audition!) The Producer/Director who knows what it is like to be nominated for an Academy Award will be the center of attention for an “evening of entertainment” at the Red Arrow Gallery on Saturday night. The party starts at 5 pm (ET) and last until 10. Check out my Facebook and Twitter accounts to see the invite.

Chicago Real Estate @properties Opens in Harbor Country: Just announced that @properties is expanding into the second home market just in time for Spring in Southwest Michigan and Northwest Indiana. The company purchased a new, 1,100-square-foot storefront retail space at 225 N. Whittaker St., part of the mixed-use BridgeWater Place development. The office , which opened late last month, is staffed by five brokers, from the Michigan office of Chicago-based Prudential Rubloff. The brokers include Gail Lowrie, Debbie Jacobson, Will Schauble, Mario Zarantenello and Ron Zarantenello. The firm also hired Candy Freehling, another Prudential Rubloff alumna, as office manager. @properties plans to add another dozen brokers to the office by the start of summer according to company co-founders Thaddeus Wong and Michael Golden.
