The Jeff Daniels 2013 Report: Thanks to my subscription to the Purple Rose Theatre Company newsletter, I learned that Jeff Daniels, who founded the company in Chelsea, Michigan near Ann Arbor, has written his 15th play The Meaning of Almost Everything, a comedy which will open January 10th and stay open until March 9th, at least...whether you will like this play or not I can't predict because I haven't seen or read Daniels' work. (My New Year's resolution is to do both some time in 2013.) But, I have to admit that even though I fought hard to not like the HBO original series that Daniels stars in---Newsroom---I just love that show. While I'm certain some knowledgeable television critic has said it better, the Aaron Sorkin Newsroom bears no resemblance to any real newsroom I've worked in or visited. But that doesn't matter at all. Newsroom is just a good show and other people must agree since Jeff Daniels is nominated for a Golden Globe (Live on NBC Sunday January 13th) and a Screen Actors Guild award which will be on TNT and TBS on Sunday, January 27th. I hope Jeff Daniels wins all the awards in the world and his play is great too. And, furthermore, I hope Newsroom comes back sooner and stays on longer.

Also Coming Next Weekend, the 3rd Annual Birdhouse Auction: Tickets are already on sale for this very fun evening in wintertime Harbor Country. On Friday, January 11th, 2013 at the Marina Grand Resort in New Buffalo, Michigan, the Third Annual Birdhouse Auction to benefit Harbor Country Public Arts Initiative! will go live with 50 unique birdhouses designed by local artists sold to raise funds that support the HCPAI. As the press release says, “This is [indeed] a great chance to own a one-of-a-kind piece of art by some great artists!” I have seen these birdhouses hung like fine works of art on the walls of Berrien County. The event runs from 5 pm to 8 pm EST and the ticket price ncludes two glasses of wine or two beers with appetizers. The seating is limited---and you will be happy about that---and there will be some tickets available at the door for $25. But you are truly better off buying tickets for $20 in advance from any of the following people or places: Tim Rogers, New Buffalo 269-469-8226;Angela Reichert, Three Oaks 269-426-1991; Linda Hoffhines, Union Pier 773-852-5518 or Marina Grand Resort, .New Buffalo 269-469-9900

Fritz Olsen Raises Money and Gives Away A Bike: Sharon Phillips of Three Oaks is this year's winner of the fourth annual Art of Giving raffle for the .benefit of Radio Harbor Country The beach cruiser was generously donated by Outpost Sports. One hundred percent of the proceeds raised during this event (which is hosted annually by Fritz Olsen and Martha Cares in their Sawyer gallery) are donated to benefit Radio Harbor Country. The winning ticket was drawn on stage at the Acorn Theater during the annual Christmas at the Acorn show. Congratulations, Sharon!
