Weekend for art stalkers begins with the Beaux Arts Ball; the 2nd annual downtown Hammond Art Tour has 300 artists participating; Chicago's Printers Row Lit Fest in its 29th year and in Valpo, Anthony Gomes does a solo blues jam.

The Beaux Arts Ball is Tomorrow Night: Very artistic weekend ahead starting with the South Shore Arts Annual Beaux Arts Ball at the arts center in Munster on Friday night. One of the highlights of this year's event---any Beaux Arts Ball--- is the interesting art that board members have solicited or collected at exhibitions and gallery shows around the area.I can't tell you my exact favorites because we're all in the bidding war together but there is an original photograph donated by Artist Pete Doherty, a woodcut on paper by Peter Olsen, that is a real knockout when you see it up close; a print edition photo by artist Kay Westhues and an original photo of Bruce Springsteen & E Street,” signed and donated by photographer Janet Macoska. The auction highlight is a luxury escape to the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa. The four night stay comes complete with roundtrip airfare for two from American Airlines and a hot air baloon ride.

The Annual Downtown Hammond Art Tour is Saturday until 4 pm: Starting at 11 a.m., ten venues are participating in this year's tour.Over three-hundred artists will be represented and many are coming themselves. This is an event for the serious collector, but is also accessible for families and people who enjoy interesting emerging artists. As Mike Lewandowski of Blue Room Cafe says, this is the perfect weekend to encourage “those who may not be aware of the growing art scene in Downtown Hammond to discover what we have been developing for the past ten years. “Maps will be available at each stop to guide you to the other spaces. The Blue Room Cafe is at 5246 Hohman Avenue.

One Night Jam at Chicago Street Theatre in Valpo on Sunday: Chicago Street Theatre's acclaimed "One Night Jam" concert series is bringing one of the hottest blues artists in the country, Anthony Gomes, to their intimate stage for a rare solo acoustic blues jam on Sunday, June 9 at 7 p.m. Gomes, a native of Canada now residing near St. Louis, is one of the most popular artists in the contemporary blues

29th Annual Printers Row Lit Fest is Saturday and Sunday: There are always authors everywhere at the annual book fair in the South Loop.Big names this year are authors Judy Blume, Blue Balliett, cartoonist and graphic novelist Art Spiegelman, Top Chef's Fabio Viviani and teen sensation Tavi Gevinson. So, heads up to younger readers this year.
