The turkey is not only the centerpiece of the Thanksgiving meal, but it also makes a fun focal point for your holiday décor. Create one or both of these easy projects with your young—or young at heart—family members to add a little extra magic to Turkey Day.

Pinecone Turkeys

Fall is the perfect time to take a nature walk with your kids and collect a few pinecones for this adorable craft. These little turkeys will make a great addition to your Thanksgiving tablescape, so make enough for each place setting.

Orange felt

Wiggly eyes

Cut feathers in half.

Place a small amount of hot glue or a glue tab on feathers and insert in pinecone.

Cut a triangle shape out of felt. Then glue on the beak and eyes.

Thanksgiving Turkey Cupcakes

Kids and adults will gobble up these delicious, festive little goodies. Make them ahead of time to set out as part of your Thanksgiving dinner décor, or save the preparation for a fun kids’ activity after the big feast.

1 box cake mix (flavor of your choice)

Eggs, oil and water, according to cake mix instructions

1 container of chocolate frosting

Cupcake liners

M&M’s or similar candy (brown pieces only)

Candy corn

Creme-filled chocolate sandwich cookies

Fudge Stripes cookies

Make cupcakes according to box instructions. Cool and frost (reserve ¼ cup of frosting).

Separate sandwich cookies and place two of the frosted sides next to each other in center of frosted cupcake. Add one brown M&M candy to each to create eyes.

Cut roughly a quarter off the top of the Fudge Stripes cookie to make a flat edge. Spread reserved frosting on the rounded end of the chocolate side of the Fudge Stripes cookie, and stick candy corns to the frosting to make feathers. Carefully insert the cookie, flat end down, toward the back of the cupcake.

Cut yellow portion of candy corn off the tip, and place remaining piece on cupcake for the beak.
