If you've yet to visit one of the region's most popular family friendly attractions, Fair Oaks Farms, now is a great time to do so as special weekend holiday events are taking place.

"This is our first year we are open in December. We really wanted to celebrate the Christmas season to bring back families who come throughout the year, but also to bring in new customers who can experience some perks for the holiday season," said Leslie Rusk, Marketing Director for Fair Oaks Farms.

Fair Oaks Farms offers a unique look into the workings of a modern dairy farm and educates families on where our food comes from. Included in the regular admission for the Dairy Adventure are the educational exhibits, 4D movie, birthing barn and a tour of one of the largest working dairies in the country. In warmer months, a large inflated bounce pillow and outdoor play area are open, as well.

Holiday events are also included with the price of admission. Among the activities are a December 15 event when kids can decorate their own Christmas cards and then have a photo taken with Santa and a December 22 story time with Mrs. Claus with cookies and hot chocolate.

While December is usually a time when the farm closes down for necessary upkeep, this season's maintenance has been moved to January to offer some holiday fun. While summer months see the most visitors, Rusk emphasized that nearly all the attractions can be enjoyed in December as well. "A lot of people don't realize most of tour is indoors, so you still can do the museum with all the exhibits, our 4D movie, the birthing barn and the bus tour."

The Cheese Factory, Café and Gift Shop have added seasonal items, such as scarves and ornaments and new on the menu are peppermint mochas, peppermint hot chocolate and peppermint milk shakes. In the café, breakfast and lunch items are available, including sandwiches with their award-winning cheese, which are all made on site. Windows allow visitors to view the cheese making process.

"We're really excited about being open for the Christmas season," said Rusk. "We wanted to do something special for our customers."

You'll also want to follow the Fair Oak Farms Facebook page as they'll be starting 12 days of giveaways starting on December 12. Each day trivia questions will be asked and the first person to answer correctly will win that day's prize. A new prize will be revealed each day.
