Those who wish to pursue additional training or a college education have abundant opportunities in Northwest Indiana with such institutions as Calumet College of St. Joseph, Indiana University Northwest, Ivy Tech Community College, Purdue University Calumet and North Central and Valparaiso University in Northwest Indiana.

Hammond is home to Purdue University Calumet, with Calumet College a stone’s throw in Whiting.

PURDUE UNIVERSITY CALUMET

Under the leadership of new Chancellor Thomas Keon, PUC enrolled more than 9,600 students in undergraduate and graduate programs.

The university’s 202-acre campus in Hammond’s Woodmar section features classrooms and laboratories, the Center for Innovation Through Visualization & Simulation, student housing, library and student union building as well as the Challenger Learning Center.

PUC offers more than 100 academic programs which lead to associate, baccalaureate and master’s degrees plus professional certificates. Programs are enhanced by Purdue Calumet’s cultural diversity, expert faculty, considerable computer resources, and community partnerships. Together they provide a world-class education.

Experiental learning that connects academic learning with real-life careers is a hallmark of Purdue University Calumet.

CALUMET COLLEGE OF ST. JOSEPH

Calumet College of St. Joseph is also under new leadership with Dan Lowery as President.

CCSJ is a small, family-oriented, four-year college offering master's, bachelor's, and associate's degrees as well as certificate programs.

The college serves a diverse student population that represents the Calumet area of Northwest Indiana and Northeast Illinois.

Because many of the students work and raise families, Calumet College provides both full-time and part-time study options as well as day and evening classes that meet once or twice a week. In addition, students may be awarded credit for life experience.

The small class sizes enhance the learning process and provide personal attention from faculty. CCSJ has no out-of-state tuition differential and is conveniently housed in a single building at 24 New York Ave. with plenty of free parking.
