There is no longer any reason that I, as chairman of the Lake County Democratic Party, nor our members, including the precinct committeemen and vice committeemen, should any longer tolerate the continued allegations of criminal misconduct of Lake County Councilman Jamal Washington.

It is painfully obvious that Councilman Washington is not capable of controlling or containing his abusive conduct towards women, which is terribly unfortunate and disappointing.

It was certainly my hope that the councilman would have learned from his prior conviction and obtained professional anger management counseling, which was part of his probation. Unfortunately, that does not appear to be the case.

Since early in March, when I was elected chairman of the Democratic Party, I have continuously contended, and will continue to contend, that our party cannot tolerate this type of conduct by one of its members, let along a Lake County councilman.

It is time for the party to take a clear and unequivocal position, and on behalf the Lake County Democratic organization, I do so today.

I ask for the immediate resignation of Jamal Washington as a Lake County councilman.

I do this with no joy, but rather believing it to be in the best interests of Washington himself, his constituents, the thousands of good members of our Democratic Party and the citizens of Lake County as a whole.

I hope and trust that Washington accepts and understands our position and submits his resignation as soon as possible.
