Portage city government always seems to be seeking the next opportunity to attract businesses and jobs to its confines.
The drive historically pays off, and the recent announcement that Israeli firm, MCP USA Inc., will locate in a building at the AmeriPlex at the Port industrial park is no exception.
The Portage City Council deserves credit for attracting the firm, including approval of a five-year personal property tax abatement on the equipment for the company.
In return, the company plans a $2.7 million investment in the building at 6750 Daniel Burnham Drive and the installation of $8 million in new equipment.
The company also plans to employ as many as 50 people when it reaches full capacity. And they're quality jobs, with most positions paying between $23 and $28 per hour and 10 salaried employees earning an average of $60,000 per year, according to the company.
Portage deserves praise for bringing this deal to fruition by always looking ahead.
